Healthy In Pennsylvania: $100,000 Granted To Non-Profit Organizations Through Altoona Curve Charities

One city last year really chose to do some good. Imagine that! Just one community in a random area of the US decided to get together and create a positive impact. Where? There’s this city in Pennsylvania called Altoona and they banded together to raise a lump sum to split among multiple charities. In 2023, Altoona Curve Charities was able to donate $100,000 to 33 non-profit organizations. All in one year, Altoona, PA raised enough to send a good chunk of funds to over 30 charities. This is just another example of what just one community can do to spread positivity and share wealth.

How did Altoona raise so much to donate to good causes? This local charity collects funds through 50/50 ticket purchases at every home game. Maybe we should mention that Altoona Curve Charities is actually just a Booster Club for the local school. If you consider that point, it seems even more amazing that they were able to raise $100,000 for charity throughout just one year. In fact, 2023 was a record breaking year that allowed for much more giving than anyone involved could have anticipated. If every school put in the kind of effort we’re seeing in Altoona, there could be a lot more support for everyone in the country.

The whole pot of donations was given out to many different local businesses and charities in the form of funding or services. Some of the receivers during the 2023 grant season included Big Brothers Big Sisters Of Blair County, Mountain Lion Backpack Program, and the Altoona Area Public Library. We could list every organization that received a grant from Altoona Curves Charities, but the list is long and full of too many amazing causes.

Focusing on just their local area is a great way to give back, but this charity organization went a little further. They send funding and services to communities surrounding their area as well. Backpack programs, art museums, and children’s sports leagues in cities near Altoona benefited from the Booster Club’s efforts just as much as the city itself. In 2024, the charity has a goal to reach an even higher landmark to give a large sum donation. With such a high record this year, their sights are set on accepting even more donations to do as much good as possible.
