Golf is a fun pastime for so many people. Men and women enjoy getting out into the sunshine and playing the game. Even kids love the mini version of golf. Here’s another reason to love golfing, though. From just one tournament, the LPGA Dana Open managed to raise and donate $335,000 for children. Female golfers got out on the green and raised this huge sum to benefit kids and families in need. The money was sent to 5 different children’s charities in Ohio. A lot of good is going to come from such a generous contribution.
Of the 5 receiving charities, you might recognize a couple of them right away. Two of the most known recipients are The Ronald McDonald House Charities Of Ohio and Nationwide Children’s Hospital. These charities were also given the highest amount of donations from the LPGA event. If you’ve heard of these two charities, you know that they directly benefit seriously ill children as they survive and cope with their families.
The Ronald McDonald House Charity focuses on keeping families together while traveling for necessary care. Every house is kept at a high level of cleanliness and totally allergen free so any child can stay in a real home while receiving medical care. Many families find it difficult to manage a life of travel for doctor visits. This lets them create their own safe space, out of a hotel, for totally free.
Nationwide Children’s Hospital, receiving $250,000 from the LPGA Dana Open this year, focuses on compassionate care for all children. The hospital ensures that any child will receive care regardless of the parent or guardian’s ability to pay. As if that weren’t enough, Nationwide Children’s Hospital also invests in medical research that leads to further advancements. That means that more kids can be helped all the time because the hospital is able to do so much research. Staying up on pediatric trends and health advancements has kept this charity saving children for over 125 years.
Since 1984, the LPGA Dana Open has raised and donated $14.3M for children’s charities. Over 200 kid’s charities in Ohio and Michigan have deeply benefited from the annual ladies’ golf tournament. As the event continues through the years, more and more children will benefit from its donations to charity. Held this year in Toledo, there will be a new location for 2025 to raise funds and help even more kids out there. If you’re a golfing fan, it’s worth keeping an eye on the LPGA Dana Open as they make waves in charitable contributions for children.
